Anytime fitness co-founder Jacinta McDonell's Balmain home was sold at weekend auction at $3,775,000.

The philanthropic McDonell, who oversees a gym empire of 420 clubs across Australia, paid $3.3 million in 2014 for the Terry Street home.

McDonell is looking to head east for closer proximity to schools.

Set on a 348 sqm block, the reinvention of a double-fronted sandstone residence has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A heated mineral pool adjoins a self contained guest cottage.

Cobden & Hayson agent Matthew Hayson was expecting $3.5 million.

McDonell made a recent Byron Bay hinterland purchase, spending $2.1 million for Ammamead last October.
