Media personality Angela Catterns has bought a retreat in the Byron Bay hinterland.

It's at Wilsons Creek, some 27 kilometres north east of Byron. She paid $1 million for the home from the Maughan family.

It sits on a vast 3300 sqm parcel.

Catterns is mostly known for her work on Australian radio ever since she presented Mornings on Triple J in the 1980s.

For four years she did Breakfast on 702 ABC Sydney.

She shared the 1915 warehouse in Sydney with her music composer partner Charlie Chan.

Catterns and Chan bought their 278 sqm Balmain warehouse for $1.93 million and sold the empty shell for $2.5 million.

They had previously owned Glendarra, an 1897 freestanding Victorian Balmain terrace with water views which sold for $3.1 million.
