Diplomat Alexander Downer and his wife, Nicky have listed their family's grand Georgian Martinsell estate in South Australia's Barossa.

It comes with $2 million hopes through Oren Klemich of Klemich Real Estate for Australia’s high commissioner to Britain, and former foreign minister.

It is regarded as one of the Barossa’s stately trophy homes, bought by Downers’ parents in 1974.

Following Sir Alick’s death in 1981, his widow Lady Mary stayed on at the Pewsey Vale address until her death in October last year.

Historic items have been recently donated to the University of South Australia’s Alexander Downer Collection.

The 77 acres have 12 acres of sav blanc vineyard contracted to Grant Burge wines.

The Downers last year sold their Mount George family home to make the move to London.
