Ganeden, the long-time Vaucluse trophy home of lawyer John Landerer, founder of Landerer and Company, has hit the market with $60 million hopes.

The sprawling home on the dress circle Wentworth Road is reminiscent of hotel with its resort-like facilities, such as an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, gym and cinema.

There's even an in-house function centre.

There are seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, three kitchens, two internal lifts and car garaging for 20 cars.

The limestone compound, which comprises two residences, sit in landscaped gardens from Paul Bangay.

The vast limestone compound has belonged to Landerer for over three decades.

He started buying up the now mega-mansion in 1988 when he and his wife Michelle paid $5.2 million for the home of David and Agnes Ross.

He had plans to rebuild and in the mid-1990s he bought the two houses behind and commissioned architect Stephen Gergely to build Ganeden.

Now his land holding totals 2,400 sqm.

Only external pictures of Ganeden have been marketed on listing websites through Sydney Sotheby's agent Michael Pallier. The other mystery is the vendor commission set to be paid on any sale.

It won't challenge the non waterfront record of La Mer, the modernist home that was sold for $70 million in 2015 by James Packer and then wife Erica.
