The original bachelor turned Neighbours actor Tim Robards has secured the snappy sale of the Newcastle investment townhouse he's owned for almost two decades.

Robards was seeking $400,000 to $440,000 for the Charlestown property. He scored $420,000.

It was his first home after paying $164,000 in 2001.

The townhouse was snapped up in 32 days, quicker than Charlestown's typical 41 days time on market.

Although Newcastle district prices have begun to soften, Robard's timing was spot on too.

House prices are down 1.6 per cent in Newcastle this year after a 16 per cent rise prior year, while he's bought into the Sydney market where prices have fallen by some nine percent this year.

Since 2008, when it became a $290 a week rental, Robards has seen the median house price in Charlestown soar from $340,000 to $625,000.

Robards most recent tenant was paying $395 a week.

Street Property Newcastle agent Damon Sellis sold the three bedroom, two bathroom townhouse.

Robards has bought into the flattening Sydney property market with new wife, lawyer Anna Heinrich, who he gave the final rose to on The Bachelor in 2013.

They spent $1.9 million on an apartment in Rose Bay.

The three bedroom apartment sits on the ground floor of a 1930s boutique block of six across the road from Rose Bay Marina.

Robards and Heinrich wed earlier this year in Italy at the Masseria Potenti hotel in Puglia before honeymooning in Turkey with their mates.
