Former politician Bill Baxter lists Murray River farm Cheverny

Former Victorian politician Bill Baxter and wife Jan are selling Cheverny, their Rutherglen farm on the Murray River.

Baxter represented the Nationals Party in the both the lower and upper house on Spring Street, with his stint in the Victorian Legislative Council running from 1978 until 2006.

He was Minister for Roads and Ports in the Kennett government.

The then Wodonga based Baxter's bought the holding in 1998 and began planning their retirement.

They built the colonnaded homestead in 2006, naming it after travels in the Loire Valley, France.

It sits on 78 hectares.

In recent year the farm land has been leased to local farmers.

Pat Rice & Hawkins agents Matt and Rob Childs are selling the property.

The homestead block comes with an indicative price of $1.2 million while the farming portion is around $300,000.
