Tilba Tilba, the 1870s Balmain home of the late artist Karin Oom, failed to sell at its weekend auction when it was expected to fetched $4 million.

It is now for sale at $4,050,000.

Enjoying one of Balmain's most coveted enclave settings overlooking beautiful Elkington Park, 'Tilba Tilba has been held by the family for over 50 years.

Tilba Tilba at 18 White Street served as Oom’s art studio and family home.

It remains largely in original state and was restored by the family in the 1960s and 70s to highlight its cedar joinery, Tallowwood floors, grand arched windows, an open fireplace and 14ft ceilings.

It sits on a 639 sqm parcel of land.

The original owner and builder, Frederick Ropier Robinson, was a local identity and former mayor of Balmain. The four-bedroom home has grassy garden with views of Sydney Harbour.

It has been listed with Monique Dower and Lynsey Kemp.
