Millionaire philanthropist John Kinghorn has sold in Mosman, six month after listing his harbourfront mansion with $16 million hopes.

The founder of RAMS Home Loan and wife Jill Kinghorn have owned their waterfront home in Mosman since 1982.

It sold for around $12.5 million after downsizing into a $10 apartment in the nearby Watermarque building in the suburb’s first double-digit apartment sale.

The five-bedroom Carrington Avenue home was bought in 1982 for $1.3 million having been built in 1978 with four levels.

There were renovations in 2013 with a $450,000 estimated value.

It comes with swimming pool, boat house, jetty and a pontoon.

It was briefly listed in 2011 with $9 million hopes through local agent Geoff Smith when they planned to spend more time at their Bilgola beachfront house which was sold in 2013 for $5.35 million.

The home sold to buyers from the Sutherland Shire.
