Fairfax Media director Patrick Allaway and wife Elizabeth have bought back into Mosman.

They've spent $3.1 million on a single-level home that has doubled in price since it traded in 2013 for $1,567,000.

Set on 385 sqm in rose dotted gardens, the home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The couple downsized from their $4.4 million Esther Road home last year.

Its their fourth Mosman abode, having peaked with a Kirkoswald Avenue trophy home sold to UBS boss Matthew Grounds for $14.05 million in 2012.

They briefly resided on the edge of Hyde Park, but sold their apartment in The Residence to Fairfax Media chief executive Greg Hywood for $4.1 million in 2016.
