Ann Sherry, the current head of Carnival Australia, the largest cruise ship operator in Australasia, is joining the NAB board.

Sherry is a former chief executive of Westpac New Zealand.

Sherry spent 12 years in senior roles with NAB's rival before joining the cruise ship operator in 2007.

She is also a non-executive director for Sydney Airport, the Palladium Group and Infrastructure Victoria.

She is on the board of Australian Rugby Union, Tourism & Transport Forum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Dr Ken Henry, chair of the NAB, says she brings extensive banking and business skills together with a deep understanding of how to drive the right culture, community engagement and customer focus.
