A 1938 art-deco Hawthorn house that sold pre-auction for $3.22 million was Melbourne’s most expensive weekend auction offering.

The Auburn Road home was marketed as one of “the most exquisite restorations to have hit the Hawthorn market”.

The property set in 755 square metres of manicured gardens last sold for $501,000 in 2001.

It features original features such as black manganese bricks, terrazzo floors and curved textured walls.

The master wing is towards the rear of the house and is separated from three double brick bedrooms.

The kitchen and bathrooms have been renovated.

The property was offered through WHITEFOX agents Ryan Fisher and Marty Fox.
