The former centrepiece of Nathan Tinkler's Hunter Valley horse breeding empire has been sold to funds manager Andrew King.

He's the Belrose based pastoralist who founded the king of short sellers, Regal Funds Management.

With cattle now grazing in paddocks, it has been on and off the market since 2014, when a mooted sale to Middle East interests collapsed.

More recently a Sutherland Shire family came close to buying it from the Patinack horse breeding and racing empire which was funded in the desperate last days by the retailer Gerry Harvey.

King's rural business bought the Hereford cattle farms, Mt Hope and Beverley Downs in central NSW at Coolah, for a $10 million from the Welsh family earlier this year.
