Architect Ian Moore's own award-winning Surry Hills warehouse has been listed with a $3.1 million asking price.

The nifty 84 square metre Prospect Street property has been listed by Marcus Lloyd-Jones at the Modern House agency.

It's known as the Strelein Warehouse, being also home to Moore's partner Tess Strelein.

The former 1895 grocery warehouse was bought by the couple in 2008 for $950,000 from artist Jon Plapp who had paid $29,750 in 1978.

It was rebuilt in 2010 and won 16 national and international awards.

The main street façade re-interprets the original home but in steel rather than timber.

The two level, one bedroom residence - with 150 square metre internal space - takes advantage of its two street frontages.

Internally a 1.7 metre height difference between Prospect Street and Chapman Street is used to create the tall volume of the living space and its floor-to-ceiling wall of books.

The entire house is decked out in black and white tones.

The kitchen occupies the half level above, overlooking the living area.

The home was listed in 2013 for six months but failed to find a buyer at $2 million through BresicWhitney.
