Retired Newcastle Knights winger James McManus has sold his Nelson Bay home amid his continued court battles.

He's just sold the home for $800,000 having paid $585,000 brand new in 2014.

Set on 352 sqm, the townhouse had four bedrooms, three bathrooms and two living areas.

An outdoor entertaining balcony has lake and bush land views.

Global Warners Bay agent Shaun Elms sold the home .

The 31 year old Scottish born winger played 166 games for the Knights including three State of Origin games for New South Wales.

McManus is in the middle of a legal battle with the Central Coast club, suggesting the club should have retired him after numerous head injuries.

He is the first Australian footballer to take legal action against a professional sporting club over the handling of his repeated concussions.

McManus, who lists 10 concussive injuries between 2012 and 2015, suggests the club failed to conduct proper medical assessments following the injuries.

In 2013 he finished the league's equal leading try scorer with 19 for the regular season.
