The former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has dipped back into the property market after his windfall Bondi Beach exit.

It's not however on the glamorous Campbell Parade strip, nor done with his new girlfriend, the designer Michelle Leslie.

He's instead settled on the 1950s charmer at Newcastle's Mayfield, with title documents showing it was bought along with his younger sister Chelsey, founder and editor of food blog Like A Vegan.

The home, not far from his hometown of Merewether, cost the brother and sister duo $503,100.

The brick and tile home has two bedrooms, and a brick mantle fireplace among its period features.

It was marketed as being perfect for a first home buyer, investor or downsizer by Dowling Mayfield selling agent Maria Di Claudio.

Johns has hit the headlines recently for his emerging relationship with Leslie.

The couple were introduced through a friend last year and are reported to have began dating seriously last October.

Johns has since posted a picture on Instagram with Leslie with the caption - "Without music, life would be a mistake" - a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche

Late last month the pair, who have managed to keep much of their life private, were papped at Sydney airport, checking on a flight to the US.

The couple were heading to LA where Johns is focusing on his solo career.

Johns was once married to singer Natalie Imbruglia. The couple divorced in 2007 after four years of marriage.

Johns scored the major windfall sale of his Bondi Beach apartments last year when he grouped together with his fellow apartment owners in a Campbell Parade building to sell all six of the apartments in the block.

Johns owned the top two floors of the four level, 1960s complex that fetched around $14.8 million when bought by Sussan Group owner and Victoria's richest woman Naomi Milgrom.

Johns bought the two units in 2001, together costing $1.6 million, but he only lived in the building for a short time before leasing the apartments.

He still co-owns two apartments, one in Elizabeth Bay and one Darlinghurst, both bought in 2010 with his brother, Heath.

His new Mayfield purchase is near his longtime Merewether home that he's had since 2000.

Johns former band mates still hang on to a piece of home also.

Silverchair's bass guitarist Chris Joannou has a quaint 1930s cottage in Carrington.

Ben Gillies, the group's drummer and percussionist, previously owned in Sydney's inner west at Drummoyne.

Last year he sold the four bedroom home for $2.3 million having paid $1.09 million in 2002, the same year the band topped the ARIA Albums Chart with Diorama

It became Silverchair's fourth number-one album and spent 50 weeks in the top 50.

Gillies is Melbourne based with wife Jackie Gillies, a professional psychic who has featured recently in the Real Housewives of Melbourne.
