The former long-time lieutenant of Richard Branson, David Baxby and his wife Selina have sold their Coogee beachside manor.

The former co-CEO of the Virgin Group paid $3.6 million for the 1905 Federation upon his late 2015 return to Australia from Geneva.

There were three interested parties at the tough auction crowd which sought to open the bidding at less than its prior sale price.

Agent Clint Ballard placed a $4 million vendor bid at its Saturday auction, which was then bettered by $10,000. Negotiations continued after the small crowd dispersed.

The five bedroom family home comes with plans by architect Alex Roth prepared for the Baxby's who own nearby.

Baxby had previously been an investment banker at Goldman Sachs who moved to London and then found himself with Virgin as a client.
