Celebrated international fashion designer Camilla Franks has bought a Victorian era residence in Woollahra.

Set amid 455 square metres of landscaped gardens, the four bedroom, three bathroom freestanding home was built in the 1880s.

The modernised open plan family room spills out to a rear deck.

It last traded for $2 million in 2002.

Belle Property agent Albert Sassoon secured the pre-auction sale to the queen of the kaftan.

Known for her love of colour and stylish designs, the fashion designer will no doubt decorate with her eclectic blend of the exotic, quirky and antique.

She intends sharing the house with two large dogs - Gypsy and Beau. The latter, an Italian mastiff, weighs 60 kilograms.

Franks opened the boutique store, Camilla, in Bondi Beach in 2004 and has gone on to develop an international clothing empire, dressing the stars here and overseas.

She is in stores across Australia. Some of her most famous clients include singer Beyonce and Oprah Winfrey.

Until recently Franks has been residing in Wales where she reconnected with her 'soul mate' who she fell in love with around 20 years ago.

The couple were living in Cowbridge, a town half an hour outside of Cardiff.
