Ironman legend Shannon Eckstein lists in Mermaid Waters

Now they've completed their dream home down the road, Ironman legend Shannon Eckstein and wife, former model Belinda, have listed their redundant Mermaid Waters home. 

They fully renovated the family entertainer that they paid $702,000 for in 2010.

Comprising four bedrooms and two bathrooms on its 600 sqm land parcel, the home comes with a home office, swimming pool and a level back yard.

Harcourt Coastal agent Grant Stephens has a November 19 auction.

Due to the birth of their second child, Blake, the couple wanted to upgrade, so they spent $860,000 for a 734 sqm waterfront block at the new Mermaid Waters development, The Lakes.

Born and bred in Surfers Paradise, Shannon, nicknamed the Professor, is considered among the best IronMen of all time.

He has won six Australian Championships, another half dozen world titles and a record breaking eighth Nutri-Grain IronMan crowns.

Eckstein, who also owns property in Mermaid Beach and Mackay, said he wanted his children to experience the same childhood he did as a youngster – a lifestyle involving the Gold Coast waterways.

“Our family home was on the canals and I did a lot of fishing and took the tinnie out with my brother,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“Mum still lives in our family home in Mermaid Waters and we used to see that block of land (The Lakes) on the way to school at St Vincent’s (Primary School),” he said. 

He said he and his wife had been house hunting in Mermaid Waters and Broadbeach Waters for the past six months but had not found the right place until The Lakes came on to the market.

The 41 canal-front sites, now sold out, range from 650sq m to 1,407sq m and cost $800,000 on average.

Eckstein said they hoped to build a two-storey home with four bedrooms, a study and children’s playroom, as well as an indoor-outdoor entertaining area with a pool overlooking the canal. 

“We’re a little nervous,” he said.

“We watch The Block and those types of TV shows and it looks like it’s a bit of stress.

“But it’s pretty much everything we want, so we can build it ourselves and have a say on everything from the colours and the layout. 

“It’s a no-brainer to go ahead with that.”

The pair hoped to be in their new home by Christmas next year. 

Developer Sunland is behind the decade-long, master-planned community which is expected to eventually include houses, duplexes, townhouses, apartments and parks. 

The trophy 42 hectare residential development is regarded as one of the most significant large-scale development parcels in the heart of the Gold Coast.  

The site surrounds a large central lake and features canalfront land with direct ocean access.  

The first land release, where Eckstein bought, sold out in seven weeks for $33 million.  

The next stage is being designed with a development application expected to be lodged with Council before the end of the year.
