There was a $1.87 million sale at auction last weekend when arts festival veteran Josephine Ridge sold her Edgecliff apartment.

The top floor walkup in the tightly held Art Deco block, Mount Stewart had been listed through Phillip Pantzer Donnelley agents Debbie Donnelley and Nick Quigley with $1.7 million price guidance.

Ridge, who recently completed a three year term as artistic director of the Melbourne arts festival, is off to Toronto, Canada to run the Luminato festival.

Ridge has three decades working in the arts world, best known for her 10 years at the Sydney Festival, following jobs at Melbourne's Playbox theatre, the Australian Opera, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Ballet.

The house size Edgecliff Rd apartment has three bedrooms and two living rooms.

Reminiscent of a New York brownstone, the eight eight apartment Mount Stewart complex was built in 1916 resplendent with Queensland maple panelling.

It was designed by architects Halligan and Wilton.
