Once a tavern frequented by the legendary Squizzy Taylor, this trophy home in Carlton goes to auction this weekend.

The historic circa 1856 terrace on Barkly Street has a price guide of between $2.25 million and $2.5 million through Nelson Alexander agent James Keenan.

Set to be traded for the first time in over 25 years, the two level home has five bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Renovated by award-winning architect Shane Murray, the home features crafted timber detail, custom cabinetry and roof storage.

The lower level rooms open to a north-facing courtyard oasis with alfresco entertaining area.

The home last traded for $478,000 in 1989.
