An Australian property developer accused of duping two businessmen in the sale of a luxury villa in Bali should be handed a jail sentence, prosecutors said during his trial in an Indonesia court.

Eric Bevan Gillet was arrested in Bali in February after a property deal he struck with two in 2013 allegedly went sour, Fairfax Media reported.

They are said to have lost 6.7 billion rupiah (about A$659,455) in the deal.

Prosecutors said Gillet, a former president of the South Perth Chamber of Commerce, coaxed Tommy Comerford and Ketut Semadi through "tricks and a series of lies" to buy 10 villas in his Xanadu Lifestyle Resort complex at the popular beachside town of Seminyak.

Prosecutor Purwanta Sudarmaji told Gillet's trial at Denpasar District Court that the Gillet should be jailed for three-and-a-half years for fraud.

Gillet is held in Indonesia's notorious Kerobokan prison having been charged with fraud and embezzlement.
