Jack Brand, the author of the popular childrens' Freddy Tangles series, didn't get to sell his Balmain home at weekend auction.

It was an 1870s cottage on Palmer Street that now has an $1,825 million asking price.

Brand and his wife, conveyancer Sarah Merrick, bought the three-bedroom cottage in 2011 for $1.1 million from psychic medium Kate St Clair.

It was renovated in 2012.

They are heading east to be closer to schools.

The 380-square-metre property was offered through Belle Property Balmain agent Lynsey Kemp and Monique Dower.
