Built in 1877 as a 15-room brick mansion for medical practitioner, Dr Charles Duret, the South Melbourne property had an original value of £150.

Unlike the characteristic 1870s terraced residences of St Vincent Place, this $5.5 million residence stands on 490sqm.

It includes off street parking and a rooftop terrace with bay views.

Some of the original features of 34 Ferrars Place, South Melbourne have been retained, such as the rendered facade, architrave mouldings, panelled door and arched reception hall.

However the former ballroom is now a home cinema and the six bedrooms and three bedrooms on the upper level have been remodelled to fulfil every present-day expectation.

The residence also includes formal living/dining room with 16ft ceilings, ducted heating, air-conditioning, wine cellar, attic study/studio and a large garden terrace.

Agents, Oliver Bruce and Kelly Ingram of Marshall White provide a virtual tour of the property.
