New England-style Whale Beach trophy home sale finally comes

Listed in October 2012, retired lawyer Malcolm McLean and his artist wife, Jean, have finally sold their beachfront home at Whale Beach.

It was sold price undisclosed but presumably falling short of those initial ambitious price hopes of more than $10 million through Glenn Lee, of Raine & Horne Kavellaris Urban Design.

The Whale Beach Road property is two doors from the beachfront retreat of businessman and environmental activist Geoff Cousins, which sold just before the 2012 listing for a suburb record price of $13 million.

Cousins's property, named the Wedge after a nearby surf break, was snapped up within 10 days of hitting the market through Glenn Lee to then billionaire John Grill 

Architect John Crawford designed the McLean residence, a modern, New England-inspired, five-bedroom house with sweeping beach views.

The McLeans' home sits on a 1567-square-metre block.
