A new price record has been secured for Ashburton in Melbourne’s south-east with the $5.8 million sale of a trophy home.

It was the six bedroom French-provincial mansion at 8 St Georges Crescent. The block had been bought for $1,285,000 in 2001 with the 1912 house replaced pre-2008.

Hocking Stuart Glen Iris agents Steve Burke and Tony Doh, in conjunction with RT Edgar's Mark Wridgway, secured the sale by an expressions of interest campaign which attracted over 60 inspections.

The home comes with a north-south tennis court, outdoor kitchen, heated pool and teppanyaki grill.

CoreLogic RP Data puts Ashburton's median house price at around $1.16 million.

“Set on 2,750 square metres this magnificent French Provincial home smashes the existing highest price for any property sold in postcode 3147," Doh said.

Doh, who set the previous record for the suburb at $3.21 million in 2011, said the suburb was going through a renaissance with older homes being replaced with new homes.

"The marketplace in Ashburton is experiencing similar conditions to what the Balwyn market has been undergoing over the past five years," said Doh.
