UDIA reiterates support of guidelines for sale of government properties

The 407 hectare land sale at Gillman Supreme Court decision has seen the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) reiterating their hopes for the use of guidelines when selling government assets, including land.

They note that they never had a concern in regards to the buyer of the land in Gilman in 2013, however had voiced their concerns about the process early after the sale of the industrial land.

UDIA (SA)’s executive director Terry Walsh said that they were the first organization to call for an inquiry into the method of sale.

“The UDIA has been a strong proponent for use of guidelines for the process of selling government assets, including land via unsolicited bids,” said Walsh.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about fairness to prospective buyers, and more importantly, about fairness to South Australian taxpayers as owners of the land.”
