Rathgar House in South Grafton, the northern NSW town, remains for sale after weekend auction.

The historic restored 1890s residence was listed by restaurateur Tony Karouhanis who paid $302,000 for the unrenovated seven-bedroom house last year.

He and wife Shai had plans to open a cafe and bed and breakfast.

Ray White Grafton agent Ben Hottes thought it would attract $450,000 plus bidding. There was a $500,000 vendor bid.

It now comes with a $500,000 plus price guidance.

Rathgar House, located at 44 Schwinghammer Street, South Grafton, was originally the home of the first Mayor of South Grafton.

The seven bedroom, five bathroom historic building sits on 1,514 square metres.
