The 1892 Northcote trophy home, built for the Northcote's second mayor, has been listed for 23 August auction through Marek Olech from Nelson Alexander.

Around $2 million is expected by the Otway-bound Roderick Poole, founder of performing troupe Strange Fruit and his partner, opera and theatre director Suzanne Chaundy.

Grand View was once owned by veteran cook Stephanie Alexander with veggie patch of course outback.

The 28 Mitchell Street home is located on a corner block on Ruckers Hill with views of the Dandenongs.

The two-storey five bedroom home has period detailing. There is as a studio/workshop.

Northcote's second mayor was the Glasgow-born butcher William Smith.
