It sold just prior to last night's scheduled auction, after their busy Sydney Writers' Festival, but allowing the couple to be at home to watch The Book Show.

The price has not been disclosed by the Ray White Double Bay selling agent James Keenan.

Buyers were being told to expect to pay $4 million plus after initial $3.8 million plus indications.

They have owned the house since 1998 when the 506 square metre property cost $1.845 million after moving from McMahons Point where they sold in 2001 for $1.57 million.

With four bedrooms, four bathrooms, the property also comes with a self-contained apartment on the lower ground floor.

The celebrity duo’s Tudor-look private oasis has formal and informal spaces and a billiard room showcasing high ornate ceilings and original fireplaces.
