The CEO of LJ Hooker, Georg Chmiel, has resigned after 18 months, to take up an offer from iProperty Group, Asia's number one property portal site.

Chmiel will stay with LJ Hooker as the managing director for six months, as the board searches for a replacement CEO.

He was appointed as CEO in April 2012, having previously joined LJ Hooker in 2010 as the chief operating officer. He took over as CEO from L. Janusz Hooker, who became deputy chair.

He has been a member of the Technology Committee of iProperty Group (ASX: IPP) and his LinkedIn profile notes he has been a non-executive director for iProperty for three years.

He was previously CFO and general manager - international at REA Group Ltd (ASX: REA), for a period of almost six years where the business reportedly grew from a market cap of $100 million to $1.6 billion.

Property Observer recently reported that REA Group CEO, Greg Ellis, has also resigned.

Chmiel holds an MBA, a Computer Science degree, and is a CPA (USA).

He was integral in seeing a recent industry first, where L J Hooker announced they were introducing a dedicated China concierge with Chinese and English fluent Jessie Zhong.
