Unscrupulous landlords profit from income gap

Our tweet of the day, from The Global Mail, has a slightly more sombre feel than usual. Discussing Hong Kong, they tweeted out their article 'From Mansions, To Cages, To Coffins - Hong Kong's Rotten Property Ladder'.

It's worth remembering what happens when the divide becomes too much. Here, we see some graphic images and living conditions of those in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has the highest per capita rate of millionaires in the world and also one of the highest income disparities, and high rents and property prices are not helping.

One resident living in a space the size of a coffin, 1.68 by 0.76 metres, pays US$190 a month for the privilege. Often there are up to 30 of these in a room, The Global Mail reports.

A worthwhile read.
