We’re seeking an outstanding journalist and willing digital native to join our editorial team as a commercial property and personal finance reporter.

Job Description:

You will be responsible for writing and creating online content to the Property Observer website on either a part time or full time daily basis, between Monday to Friday, within a small editorial team.

Specific experience/skills required

  • Experience in writing on personal finance, home loans and mortgages
  • An interest in writing about commercial property
  • An  interest in writing about residential property market trends and hotspots
  • An enthusiasm for the second Tuesday of every month when the RBA announces it cash rate decision
  • Interest in the world of self-managed super funds
  • Interest in the foreign investment outlook
  • Reporting on the financial results of listed property companies
  • The ability to analyse and interpret property and financial data
  • Interest and knowledge of listed property trusts (A-REITS), unlisted property trusts and syndicates
  • Keep an eye out for the property underbelly, the misdoings and collapses that affect buyers and sellers
  • The ability to write sharp copy and must-click-on headlines
  • Can spot your own typos and avoid defamation
  • Love blogging and posting
  • The ability to nail the perfect tweet
  • An excellent grasp of social media platforms
  • Must be able to develop rich media content
  • Can rely on a great network of contacts
  • Represent Property Observer in the media and within the property community

You will work in conjunction with journalist colleagues, designers, IT and marketing teams.

Who are we?

Property Observer is a division of Private Media, one of the country’s leading online publishers with a suite of market-leading websites including Smart CompanyStartUp Smart, Women’s Agenda and Crikey.

The position could be at Property Observer’s Melbourne CBD or its Surry Hills, Sydney office starting in August or September.
