Viaduct Cottage, built in 1858 to accommodate a caretaker while the railway viaduct was built over the Moorabool River near Geelong, has been listed for sale.

Once the viaduct was completed in 1862 the cottage was sold and has been in the same family ever since.

The cottage at 101 Shepherd Rd, Batesford is for sale with $970,000 to $990,000 price guidance.

It sits on 4.86ha land.

North Geelong agent Mark Mayfield said the three-bedroom cottage was lived in until the 1980s but had been sitting vacant since then.

The property is on the edge of the Riverstone Estate.
