The Sydney MMM breakfast presenter Lawrence Mooney accepted $2.48 million for his ELSTERNWICK house which went to weekend auction.

The funnyman paid $2.5 million two years ago when he was living in Melbourne.

The listing came with $2.4 million to $2.6 million hopes. 

It was sold to a young family from Brighton East who beat a Hong Kong-based expat to the four-bedroom Edwardian keys.

Melbourne’s preliminary auction clearance rate was sitting at 61 per cent from 313 reported results. There were 480 auctions scheduled, and 37 properties withdrawn. 

A derelict Sydney terrace sold for $4,621,000, exceeding its reserve by more than $500,000.

More than 100 people watched the uninhabitable house at 112 Surrey Street, Darlinghurst sell under the hammer.

The four-level terrace had been listed with a $3.6 million price guide.

It attracted more than 18 registered bidders.

Sydney recorded a preliminary auction clearance rate sat of 62 per cent on Saturday from 266 reported results.

There were 440 auctions scheduled with a higher number, 74 properties withdrawn.

The nation's cheapest sale was the townhouse at 1/9 David Street, Lalor that fetched $313,000.

It sold at a small loss having traded in 2011 at $315,000.
