Carrington House, the Armadale trophy home that dates back nearly 150 years, has hit the market.

The home, built in the late 1860s, has undergone a comprehensive restoration, although has retained a number of its classic period rooms, such as the formal living, drawing and dining rooms, as well as a music room.

The Victorian mansion in 1,140 sqm of landscaped gardens features two swimming pools.

An indoor pavilion with a 25 metre lap pool runs down the side of the house, complete with sub-floor heating under its French atrium roof. The second pool sits in the grounds.

There are six upper level bedrooms, four bathrooms and a study. The master bedroom has its own ensuite, walk in wardrobe and balcony. An internal lift connects the two levels.

Abercromby's Toorak agents Hugh Hardy and Jock Langley have a $7.25 million to $7,975,000 guide.
