Mary Wong-Jenkings sells Sydney apartment for $5,165,000

KYKO Group managing ­director Mary Wong-Jenkings has secured the $5,165,000 sale of her unit in the Renzo Piano-designed Macquarie Apartments.

Her Macquarie Street, Sydney apartment had been listed with $4.6 million hopes.

She paid $3.75 million for the three-bedroom, 198 square metres unit in the complex overlooking the Botanic Garden in 2016.

Sydney Sotheby’s agents Harriet France and Tony ­Barron had the listing.

The auction saw just the two bidders once bidding went beyond $4.8 million.

With its distinctive terracotta panels and glass louvres, the Italian designer’s Macquarie Apartments won the Australian Institute of Architects’ Wilkinson Award for ­residential housing in 2004.

His most notable buildings include the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (with ­Richard Rogers), The Shard in London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.

Wong-Jenkings has bought a five-bedroom home at ­Watsons Bay for more than $4.5 million.

Its views take in the top of the Harbour Bridge.

Last year Wong-Jenkings sold The Drawing Rooms of Berry in Woodhill for $3.8 million.
