Spectacular clifftop Jorge Hrdina-designed Killcare Heights home sold

A Jorge Hrdina-designed clifftop home at Killcare Heights, on the NSW Central Coast, listed for sale with initial $5 million hopes in February, has been sold.

It was subsequently advertised in June with a revised guide of $4 million to $4.3 million.

Sandstone, copper and hardwoods feature in the pavilion-style property, one of the most spectacular homes on the Central Coast.

It is the home of Chris Lee, the widow of former AAPT executive Lee Casey who in retirement wrote the book about the region titled The Bouddi Peninsula: A Very Special Place. 

With sweeping ocean views back towards Sydney, the home was a collaboration in 2000 between Hrdina and John Fielding of Bellevarde Constructions.

The NSW chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects recognised the home in its 2003 housing category awards.

Hrdina noted the building had to feel anchored and balanced.

Having seen Machu Picchu, he wanted a heavy building that grew out of the ground.

There are two 980 kilogram sliding glass doors facing into southerlies of up to 130 kilometres per hour.

Its interiors are anchored by a striking sandstone fireplace.

The 700 square metre building block, not far from the track to Putty Beach, cost $400,000 in 1995. 

The Macdonald Street ridgeline home was listed through Belle Property agent Cathy Baker.

The neighbouring property sold at $4.55 million in 2016 after six months on the market.

It was designed by Castlepeake Architects.
