The Toorak apartment listed by Lady Norma Trescowthick, and the Harris Scarfe department store retailer Sir Donald Trescowthick, has been sold.

The apartment in a Charles Salter designed duplex on Martin Court fetched $2.7 million auction eve, leaving would-be auction attendees with little more to do than catch the last weekend of the sculpture exhibition down at Toorak village shopping centre.

Costing $1.7 million in 2005, it was custom designed with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Kay & Burton agent Andrew Smith had a $2.8 million to $3 million guide.

Two years ago the couple sold their former thoroughbred stud Cornwall Park, north-west of Melbourne.

He founded Swann Insurance, which grew to be Australia's largest privately owned general insurer before being sold.

Their former Lansell Road, Toorak home was one of the pioneering contemporary homes in the suburb.
