Hmm.. Unsure if fact or fiction but interesting nonetheless (second-last paragraph):

EDIT:

The author appears to have made a mistake; was likely to have meant "Mobile", Alabama (which is under construction).

Both the MLS and T4 jobs for Leighton are well behind schedule. Completion at the end of 2015 is not looking likely at this stage as both jobs are barely out of the ground.

Worked out this image posting finally.

^^ Thanks for the pic update.

I don't really think it will be a hugely complex project to get it up though. It looks like a fairly straight forward build once the demolition and site works are complete.

Its design looks quite modular in many aspects, which will likely make it easier and quicker to deliver.

Melbourne Airport welcomes second daily China Eastern service
Jun 17, 2014

Melbourne Airport has welcomed China Eastern’s announcement to double its Melbourne-Shanghai services to twice daily over the December 2014 - March 2015 period.

Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff, said the additional services provide more choice for travellers during the peak summer and Chinese New Year periods.

“Shanghai and Melbourne are dynamic cities and offer tourists a number of unique experiences. The seven additional services per week are at the busiest time of the year and will provide more opportunities to explore our great cities,” Mr Woodruff said.

“China continues to be Melbourne’s number one long haul market, growing nearly 20 per cent in the last quarter alone, and I thank China Eastern for their continued support in growing this valuable market.”

“We work closely with our airline customers, such as China Eastern, to provide greater scheduling flexibility, low aeronautical charges and high service levels. This in turn benefits passengers with more options to a great range of domestic and international destinations like Shanghai.”

“Over the next 20 years we are investing billions of dollars to upgrade our facilities and road network as we aim to become Australia’s airport of choice by delivering a superior customer experience,” he said.

The twice daily A330-200 service will commence on 30 November and provide an additional 29,100 seats into the Melbourne market.

A bit confused why they're building the car park so far away from the actual terminal.

As far as the master plan goes, the Tiger shed will be incorporated into the new terminal rather than demolished. Also I don't think there are any plans to extend the terminal further south for quite some time.

^^ The new car park / transit hub are designed for future terminal expansion, not just T4.Its location makes sense when that is taken into account.

The current T4 shed will indeed be incorporated into the new T4,with check in and space provided for busing lounge/area, as per the link below.

Interesting rumor:

"There is SPECULATION that Virgin Australia is considering to axe its thrice weekly 777 MEL-LAX service from as early as September in favour of offering a daily 777 BNE-LAX service which is presently 4 x weekly. Delta Air Lines will most likely commence services to MEL in order to maintain frequency/capacity requirements under the VA/DL trans-Pacific partnership."

https://www.facebook.com/Airlinehubbuz?fref=nf

^^ Taken with a grain of salt however as it's something which has been raised multiple times.

Virgin Australia axes Melbourne to Los Angeles services, announces daily flights to Brisbane

Virgin Australia will increase flights from Brisbane to Los Angeles to a daily service and abandon its Melbourne-Los Angeles flights as rival United Airlines enters the latter route in October.
Virgin had provided a three-weekly service between Melbourne and Los Angeles and a four-weekly service between Brisbane and Los Angeles on a Boeing 777-300ER, but now the Brisbane route will go daily from October 26.
United Airlines begins its direct, six-weekly Melbourne-Los Angeles flights on a new 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on October 28, ending its previous tag flight from Melbourne to Sydney that allowed Melbourne customers to then catch flights from Sydney to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

amazing that they are giving up so many future pax who will just book nonstop flights rather than go via syd/brisbane with virgin. 2 stops to all non LAX destinations with VA/DL is nuts

Big deal.

It was a pathetic thrice weekly service that was never going to survive, especially with UA going non-stop.

The only downside is that we've gone back to the future with a cosy QF/UA duopoly on MEL-North America as well as only two flights.

I have faith that someone will eventually acknowledge that it's not in the interests of the market to have the current set up and will do something about it.

I'm flying to UK via Abu Dhabi in October with Etihad. Has anyone flown long haul with them before? Would love some feedback.

Michael - I have flown with them to London on a couple of occasions and thought they were top notch. Leg room was good, meals were good and the entertainment had lots of games/tv shows/movies. Given they are competing with Emirites (and now Qantas) i suppose they cant afford to be below par.
