The masterplan really does make T2 very cramped, maximising every available inch of space. Overall though, it appears to deliver a more efficient airport but time will tell.
With AI looking more and more likely that it may well turn up in MEL in Aug, along with UL opening an office here as a part of plans to commence services, it will be interesting to see what else occurs in the coming year.
Australia’s fastest-growing major flight terminal, Melbourne Airport, is developing a 97-unit serviced apartment hotel to be tenanted by Quest, a major player in the market.
The new accommodation will be developed in the business park precinct at Tullamarine. It is due for completion by 2014.
Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Woodruff said the development would help to meet the growing demand for serviced accommodation from companies and organisations operating at the airport, along with those doing business with the airport and from aviation-related companies.
“Providing more accommodation choice for people who are doing business at the airport, or are undertaking aviation training in the airport precinct, will support the future growth of airport and aviation-related businesses in our local region,” Mr Woodruff said.
The airport experienced a 6 per cent rise in the number of passengers passing through in the last financial year – a higher growth rate than its rivals in Sydney and Brisbane.

With the Parkroyal, Holiday Inn and Ibis Budget (formerly F1) in the terminal precinct, along with the Mantra, Airport Lodge and now Quest all around the airport, it certainly gives a broad range of accommodation choices.
last i checked there was still a site set aside for a major hotel opposite the multi-level carpark for a new operator

Good news regarding the JQ investment.
I thought I read they will be leasing a hanger at MEL, but just which one or whether its a new structure which will be built and leased as part of the deal wasn't very clear. Knowing our luck, its just one of the current QF hangers that JQ will take over :)

And there folks is the answer. No new hanger but just another part of the QF groups existing infrastructure. Atleast it will be utilised now, and part of the lost jobs in recent times by QF in Vic will be re-instated. I'm sure there will be plenty of room at AVV too soon for them to look at also when QF moves out.
