Great work getting all the Insta, Tweets & Posts out thick and fast .. really appreciate it.

MAD & Coz easy favorites so far tho need to see more detail on big_builds

OMA is dead last for me (and not just because it's the shortest) .. too brutal despite the flashy podium

I think OMA would work much better if it was rotated 90 degrees. If it was in the location of FWP2 it would present less of a slab from the north and the profile of the tower would be more visible from Princes Bridge/Fed square.

I like them all!

I do like this one in particular, but see a problem with the sort of winds we get in Melbourne about 3 times a year. Just recently had a lot of branches broken off trees in our street and pots flying off balconies from the recent wind storm we had.

An engineers challenge!

I believe it's going to be open for another week so anyone who hasn't seen it would *strongly* recommend going down .. the models give you a much better appreciation for *all* the designs seen up close in person.

If anyone can find a high-res PNG of that first image would be *fabulous* ..

I hate the Coop Himmelblau and OMA both quite a lot.

EF is partly fun.. I don't particularly like the cloud thing at the top, and really wonder if anyone can show me any modern building that's aimed for a podium like that and delivered it? Are we sure Studio Ghibli didn't chip in with the concept?

The Stack does nothing for me really, at least on a visual level. And, let's face it, we're still in the beauty pageant stage here.

So the other two are my picks and they seem like real and realizable ideas. I think the FK design is really nice, but if Beluah are all in on trying to put something big and special on the site, Cox gets it for me.

If 1 Queensbridge happens then that's a particularly boring building to be the tallest (as impressive as it might be in many ways). A shame, with Eureka and A108 having a bit more about them. Realize any of these designs and, at least, we might continue to be able to say that our tallest is not just another shiny glass cock.

Yes, Cox Architecture easily the winner for mine. Especially when considering the contribution to the skyline.

I absolutely loathe this postmodern trend to creating structures that look completely undesigned when attempted at these sorts of scales.

Good luck to the winning design however in my opinion a real missed opportunity for Melbourne. Urban Tree by MAD would have been a landmark development, it even featured heavily in design publications such as Dezeen and Design boom. Instead of going out on a limb and having a big potential tourism statement building we will possibly get another neat tall rectangular building that is a bit interesting with a swerve up front but also a bit boring down each side.

I tend to agree, Urban Tree was my pick

For me this puts extra emphasis on CoM to sort out the street environment in that area. Thousands more residences and offices are being built in Southbank, in world-class buildings, but the area is actively hostile to walking and cycling. Even after the Southbank Boulevard upgrade there's a lot of work to be done.

You fix City Road, you fix Southbank. The more everything around it improves, the more obvious it will become.

Unfortunately a road can't be both pleasant and a thoroughfare for trucks at the same time so major changes will be required.

I love the way everyone is talking about this like it's going to be approved. Could someone walk me through how that's going to happen? They're going to provide what $2.5m worth of public realm benefits?
