the problem with this one is that given the small blocks abutting it its hard to know when that side wall would be built out!

in situations like this I think the Council should consider acquisition of the two properties to create a (more) viable development site.

The more critical issue is the footpath setback being implemented unlike The Olsen!

Agreed JP, the last outcome we want is a big, fat stark 20 level concrete wall dominating the area for any period of time.

A Forrest of towers: booming precinct goes from hundreds to thousands in decade

Just over a decade ago, just over 100 homes dotted the streets between South Yarra railway station and Chapel Street.

Back then a local council report suggested that, all things going well, an extra 350 new homes might be added to the area by 2015.

Instead, one development alone - the Charlize Theron-branded 50-level apartment tower on the Toorak Road and Chapel Street corner - is poised to provide another 450 apartments.

Welcome to booming Forrest Hill, named after Charles Forrest, who once owned the land where Melbourne High School now stands.

In 2005, a handful of people lived on these eight hectares, bordered by Chapel Street, Toorak Road, the Yarra River and South Yarra railway station.

Today, light industrial and office buildings have been torn down, replaced by a proliferation of apartment towers - at a construction cost over $2 billion. More than 3000 residents now live here, and the cranes dotting the skyline tell the story of how quickly these apartments are multiplying.

^ and Stonnington Council will be counting the extra rates revenue as a nice little fillip in their annual budget.

China Poly Group plans $20m apartment project for Melbourne

Elsewhere, the Shanghai-listed arm of Poly, Poly Real Estate, has swept into the Melbourne apartment market, inking a joint venture agreement for a project in up-market South Yarra.

The group said it had made a $19.8m site purchase by striking up a joint venture. It said it had bought a 51 per cent stake in a project, believed to be in Claremont Street. It said it was planning a development with floor space of 36,268sq m on the more than 2000sq m site.

CBRE senior director Mark Wizel said the latest deal showed there was lots of room left for growth in Melbourne’s apartment market.

I can't quite make out the location, is this replacing BDLC's 661 Chapel street design?

Yates&Co had approval for two towers, smaller went to C&L with the taller black tower going to Gamuda Land by the looks of it. Taller is 661, shorter is 663 Chapel
