Fishermen's Bend Schools

The Victorian Government committed to restart education provision planning for Docklands residents in 2014.

In September 2015 the Department of Education and Training commissioned specialist consultants to work in collaboration with the Department to assess the need for both primary and secondary school provision in Docklands.

The review covered the Docklands and the immediate surrounding suburbs of North Melbourne, West Melbourne, Melbourne, Parkville and Flemington.

Stage One of the review assessed the level of need generated from the Docklands community for primary and secondary school education. Stage Two made a number of recommendations with respect to future school provision in the study area.

As part of both stages, the Department undertook community consultation to explore local issues and perspectives. A Community Reference Group was formed to test project findings and share information with the community. This group included a cross section of the community and key stakeholders.

On 11 October 2016, the Government announced an Inner City Schools Package, which will deliver a new primary school in Fishermans Bend.

Funding to buy land and construct the school will be provided in a future State Budget, but work is already underway to identify a site, undertake a site assessment and begin the planning process.

When funding is allocated through the State Budget process, the Government will confirm the timeframe for the delivery of the school.
