Steve it would be easier to build the tunnel that way but it wouldn't really service much that is currently high density or has potential to be high density.

Yes north of Brunswick is reasonably high density but the stations would site in a linear park eating up much of the catchment and south of Park Street would service terrace houses.

At Alexandra you have big blocks on both sides of the road that are ripe for redevelopment (including the gasworks and the Gurner proposal on Queens Parade) and then more consistent linear density including retail/office along the north-south roads.

Alexandra median also wide enough to do a fair bit of work within with relatively limited traffic impacts.
