The Mordialloc Freeway will complete the real Mornington Peninsula Link allowing commuters to travel seamlessly from Moorabbin to Rosebud on a single freeway. This is along with cutting the commute by 10 minutes thanks to the new freeway. For example, a trip from Mornington to Moorabbin would only take 30 minutes. This is a 10 minute reduction from traveling to these suburbs via Nepean Highway.
Here is a image of the complete Mornington Peninsula Link
All we need is for a freeway interchange at Warrigal Road and the at grade crossings along the Dingly Bypass to be eliminated (as they shouldn't have been built in the first place!)
With the saving of 10 minutes between a trip from Moorabbin to Frankston, the total travel time would be only 15 minutes via the Mordialloc Freeway! This is compared to 25-28 minutes via Peninsula Link and 26 minutes via Nepean Highway currently from Moorabbin to Frankston. This will truly make the Dingley Bypass - Mordialloc Freeway - Peninsula Link - Mornington Peninsula Freeway the fastest route to the Mornington Peninsula from Melbourne. The existing 38 minute trip from Moorabbin to Mornington will only be 28 minutes with the new freeway. Also the 1 hour and 8 minute trip to Sorrento will suddenly be 58 minutes.
The trip from Moorabbin to Sorrento took 1 hour and 15 minutes via Nepean Highway. However, once the Peninsula Link was built in 2013 the trip was shorten to 1 hour and 5 minutes via Peninsula Link/Mornington Peninsula Freeway from Moorabbin to Sorrento (a saving of 10 minutes). Yet again the trip will be shortened with a saving of 10 minutes via the new Mordialloc Freeway. Essentially the same trip will only be 55 minutes! This route will be 20 minutes faster than going via Nepean Highway.
@AUSSIE STEVE the Liberals have announced today that they will convert the Dingley Bypass into a freeway without any traffic lights. This is expected to cut a further 15 minutes off the commute. A trip from Sorrento to Moorabbin will only take 40 minutes once the Dingley Bypass is turned into a Freeway along with the completion of the Mordialloc Freeway by 2021. This route will be 35 minutes faster than traveling via Nepean Highway.
The extension of the Mornington Peninsula Link to the back of Blairgowrie would also see congestion reduced in peak summer periods
