Former Martin & Pleasance Building

176-180 Collins Street

 

This highly modeled façade of layered pilasters and mouldings, enriched with a lively parapet and coloured tiles, is typical of the work of F M White. It was built in 1889 as offices and the main dispensary of Martin & Pleasence, Melbourne’s leading purveyor of homeopathic medicines, a popular 19th century curative.

This building is so easily missed by most.

One just has to stop and smell the roses to spot buildings like this. enlightened
