Where will culture kings relocate?
Wonder what's happening now
24/08/2016
1-5 Queen Street MELBOURNE
Patrial demolition of the existing building and buildings and works to construct a mutli level mixed use development including overshadowing of the north bank of the Yarra River between 11am and 2pm
Reworked scheme by K2LD
meh
Tripe.
But wait, that looks exactly like the first proposal from late 2014 that was significantly modified before going to VCAT, and then even more by VCAT - and the second render from K2LD looking along Flinders from their page is exactly the same as the first scheme - so I rekon whatever the modification was, it wasnt back to the first all glass design ! That would have been so different it would have required a new permit, not an amended one.

Reject this trash. Looks like a bad office tower from 2006.
Mark, that's the first design, not a new amended one. The K2LD website page is clearly the first design, now heavily changed. That's just a render we haven't seen before.

Surprised nobody has picked this up yet:

Hutchies are the builder
Culture Kings = culture jokers
Sick burn.
It's a clothing store, Bilby. Why the vitriol?
Mainly because they have commodified Hosier Lane to the point of parody. It's an old story - take some real culture, commercialise it and attempt to sell it back to the demographic who created it, in the process destroying the very authenticity that made it interesting in the first place.
They wouldn't have to if there wasn't a freaking hotel being built here.
We get it, they are an edgy brand that tries to act "urban". But their existence is more or less irrelevant to you.
Chances are, you don't shop there (although, stranger things have happened) so their admittedly cheesy image is not exactly in need of your critique.
Oh, it's in need.
I don't mind Culture Kings moving their premises to Hosier Lane. It actually took alot of construction costs to do so. They have basically decided that it's a great fit for their brand and I agree. You wouldn't want any more down that lane, but it actually activates the area just that little bit more and gives it even more life. That is how cities evolve. As long as its measured it's probably a good thing.
latest renders
Vibe site has a gantry on the side laneway.
Now that's how to treat a heritage building! The dark paint job really makes it stand out, but most imporantantly the architect has taken design cues from the surrounding buildings to create a podium that matches the height and colour of its neighbours. the tower itself sits on the the plane above this letting all three elements have room to breathe. great work.
Haven't seen anything new on this part of Flinders Street for years.
I count 9 cranes in the sky in that last pic. That is amazing for that part of the CBD
