Worst suburb names: Would you buy in one of these suburbs?

Across Australia, there are some straight out unusual suburb names. Some of them are unusual in a quaint or heritage-style way, while others just make the average visitor wince. 

Imagine trying to tell your friends that you've moved into any of the suburbs from the list below, and then try to imagine their reactions.

Here are five of our most disliked suburb names, and a few details about each of the locations.

Watanobbi, NSW

Located on the Central Coast of New South Wales in the Wyong Shire.

Rooty Hill, NSW

Located in Sydney's West, in the Blacktown Council area.

Burrumbuttock, NSW

Located in the central southern section of the Riverina region, and part of the Greater Hume Shire.

Cockburn Central, WA

Located in the City of Cockburn, it is one of the southern suburbs of Perth.

Yorkeys Knob, QLD

Located in Cairns, this is a beach suburb in far north Queensland.

And by reader request:

Innalloo, WA 

Originally called "Njookenbooroo" after a local swamp, it was renamed in 1927 due to pronunciation problems, according to Landgate.

Reader Dan suggests an old Perth joke goes that "you'd rather be Innalloo than Upper Swan."


We'll find out if the names really do seem to affect the price later this week.
