Schwartz family secures new $360 million Darling Park Sofitel hotel
Jerry Schwartz will own the new Sofitel Sydney Darling Park when it is finished in 2017, the largest new hotel in Sydney for more than two decades.
Developed by Lend Lease, and operated by Accor, the Schwartz Family Company is paying around $360 million, which is said to reflect an initial yield of 5.5%.
The Schwartz family has been tipped by the SMH to fund the $360 million purchase partially through the sale of his Holiday Inn at Sydney's Mascot airport.
Property Observer gathers the decisions followed a review the hotel portfolio, which includes recently acquired resorts in the Hunter Valley.
The Frasers group paid $202 million for the Sydney Sofitel Wentworth, while buyers are also looking at the Sheraton on the Park, with a price tag of around $465 million.
Schwartz say he will push for a helipad.
“Helipads are available in cities like New York and London, and it will significantly benefit Sydney’s business and convention profile to have a helipad developed at Darling Harbour,” he told Fairfax Media.
The deal was brokered by Michael Simpson of Savills.
Michael Simpson, the Savills managing director hotels Australia and New Zealand, said the luxury hotel market remains highly attractive and, with Sydney’s rising prominence as a global city required quality 5 star hotels.
