A landmark shop in Melbourne's Hawksburn has been leased by luxury goods retailer retailer Franque for around $840 per sqm, said to be a record rate for the precinct.

The shop at 597 Malvern Road has been occupied by Brown’s Antiques for almost 40 years, according to a media release.

Fitzroys agents Michael Ryan, Peter Weatherby and Jordan Ceppi negotiated the lease on the property.

The property comprises a heritage-style building with an ornate double frontage, a floor area of nearly 250 sqm, and provides ground floor retail space with high ceilings, timber floors and a rear yard.

New tenant Franque has operated successfully in High Street Armadale for many years and has exclusive rights to a number of high-end beauty and homewares lines including Santa Maria Novella.

Tenants in the strip include Woolworths and a number of fashion labels and food delis.
